Eden Bayor co-founded a company called mylobond. The idea was to replace the styrofoam with the 100% biodegradable material from mushroom. They called it mushroom packaging.Mushroom actually creates a root system containing a substance called mycelium at the end of the day, that is used as a glue to hold together the agricultural by products used in creating alternative packaging product that is 100% biodegradable. The energy cost are 1/10th of the cost of creating styrofoam as the product is alive and grow on its own.
Mushroom packaging uses thing that generally seems to be a waste like seed husks and woody biomass and turns them into a packaging material that is insulating, protective and 100% compost able, fire, vapour resistant. Since very little equipment is needed to be make it, facilities could be setup all over the world quite simply.
