As per the study conducted by researchers of the University of Texas at Austin, the reason behind why men cheat more than women is that they have stronger sexual impulses than their female counterparts. It has been established after conducting the studies regarding this subject. Results found are quite interesting as to why men are more likely to be unfaithful than women.
Two studies have been conducted in this regard. Earlier a study suggested that men are more likely to be unfaithful than women because of less self-control. The two studies were conducted to prove that men possess stronger sexual impulses than women.
The first study was conducted over 70 men and 148 women in which they were asked to describe an instance when they got attracted to someone who was “off limits”. Then their sexual desire and strength of attraction were rated for that person and also their attempts to control the desire by reacting to the questions like “I exerted myself to resist the desire/impulse” or “my behavior clearly indicated that I was acting on the desire/impulse.”
The second study was conducted on 600 graduates comprising of 326 men and 274 women. In the study, they were asked to play a game on computer where they had to accept/reject the photo of the opposite sex with the help of a joystick. The graduate could not base their choices on personal feelings, like they may have been forced to “accept” a photo that seemed unattractive to them and “reject” the one which seemed attractive to them.
Men were found to have more control than women, but had a stronger impulse (indicated by longer response times) to accept the photos that they found desirable.
The reason for the men’s poor performance is that men pay more attention to the physical appearance of the opposite sex. Because of which men are more likely to be impulsively drawn to attractive targets even though they don’t have worse control over their attention.
So, we can say that men have always had stronger sexual impulses than women but they have the ability to control their desires so they would not, say, have sex with a married woman and then be cast out of society.

Paul Eastwick, co-author of the study, said in a statement that “Men have plenty of self-control -just as much as women”, “However, if men fail to use self-control, their sexual impulses can be quite strong. This is often the situation when cheating occurs.”
