Mostly we get to hear that early to bed makes you not only physically strong but also mentally sharp. However, as per a recent study conducted by “London School of Economics’ Psychology Department” those who stay up late and wake up in the middle hours of the day are most likely to have higher IQ then those early birds. It turns out to be a good news for those who stay up late night.
A Psychologist, Satoshi Kanazava, explains the results with the fact that general intelligence is a separate mental module not necessarily linked to other mental modules like social judgment or to make objective judgment. This habit of going to bed early is associated with some historical roots. Our ancestors didn’t have electricity at their time and that is why it would not have been of much use for them to stay up late. Fortunately we have electricity and technology advantage and we can make the most of it at night. We can do our work at night or entertain or do anything that pleases us.
However, with the fact that staying up late increases your IQ, it has some adverse effects too. Staying up late at night is linked with many harmful effects on your body like depression, mental instability and irritability. It is also responsible for cardiovascular diseases. So it is your decision what you choose, higher IQ or good health.

2-phase sleep may be the ideal. It is the norm in pre-industrial societies, or even when one goes camping. One falls asleep shortly after nightfall, then wakes a few hours in the middle of the night, then falls asleep again until dawn.
