7 Common Habits That Make You Fat

Everybody wants to look slim and fit. It is really important to stay healthy in order to look slim. Generally we keep some habits that are not good and which can contribute to weight gain. It is really important to know about those habits and to avoid them. Here is a list of some habits that make you fat and you should avoid them: 

1. Eating “low-fat” stuff

Eating low fat or fat free food will save you only fewer calories and they replace harmless fats with low performing carbohydrates that help in quick digestion. Researchers of University of Alabama at Birmingham that foods that limit carbohydrates to 43% are more filling and have milder effect on blood sugar than those with 55%. It shows that you will store less body fat and later chances are low to eat more. 

2. Sleeping too much or too little

As per Wake Forest researchers, those who sleep more than eight hours a day are more likely to gain extra pounds and those who sleep less than 5 hours or less are likely to put on 2 ½ times more belly fat. An optimal sleep should be of 6-7 hours to maintain and control your weight. 

3. Skipping meals

When we skip our meals, it actually increases the odds of obesity, especially when we skin our breakfast. A study conducted by the American Journal of Epidemiology explained that those who skip their breakfast are 4.5 times more likely to put on extra pounds. Skipping meals slows down your metabolism and pumps your hunger. This increases the chances of you over eating in your next meal. 

4. Eating too fast

A study in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association found that those who eat slowly take in about 66 fewer calories per meal as compared to those who eat too fast. Those who eat fast end up eating more and hence gain more calories. 66 fewer calories means that you can lose 20 pounds a year if followed this habit. 

5. Not drinking enough water

The more you drink water, the more are the chances of you staying thin and healthy. Water is essential for the better functioning of your body parts. As per study conducted at University of Utah, dieting participants who were asked to drink two cups of water before each meal lost 30 percent more weight than others who did not drink. For better results, add ice to it. German researchers believe that drinking cold water boosts the metabolism that incinerates 50 daily calories. 

6. Eating too late

Sleeping and eating habits of 52 people were observed in the study of journal obesity and it was found that those who participants who ate after 8 P.M. took in more calories and had the highest BMIs. 

7. Taking big bites

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition discovered that those who eat bigger bites of meal take in 52% more calories in one shift of meal than those who eat small bites and chew longer. Cutting food into small pieces increases satiety and you can enjoy your food more. It is also said that “the smaller your bites, the thinner your waistline”
